Our story and mission
From a community-funded home in 2011 to a regional Islamic Center vision serving Southern California.
A journey built through gotong royong
Since 2011, the Indonesian Muslim community in San Bernardino has worked to establish the first Indonesian mosque in the region. Through mutual cooperation and self-funded contributions, the community purchased a residential home and converted it into Masjid At-Taqwa.
The current mosque remains active, but it has not yet fully realized its wider vision: becoming an Islamic Center for the eastern region of Southern California.
A home for Indonesian Islam in Southern California
Southern California has an estimated Indonesian population and diaspora of more than 55,000. San Bernardino County is one of the region’s key population centers, yet Masjid At-Taqwa is currently the only Indonesian Muslim place of worship serving this area.
The development of a representative mosque will meet spiritual needs while strengthening the global presence of peaceful, moderate Indonesian Islam—rahmatan lil ‘alamin.

At-Taqwa seeks to strengthen Muslim resilience, preserve Indonesian culture, and facilitate spiritual and social growth in the United States.
